So, Gail's surgery last Tuesday to remove the nodes went well. All of the Nodes were clear (YAY!!!).
In other news, she developed an infection at the surgical site that has not responded as well as hoped to the oral antibiotics. They put Gail back in the hospital Monday afternoon for IV antibiotics and on Tuesday
They have not said what type of infection it is specifically. Perhaps they will pop up with that information at a later date.
Gail will go home from the hospital today.
In other, better than infection news, her Bone and Chest/Abdomenal CT scans were all clear. There was one little spot that showed up on the chest scan, but they are saying that the spot either represents the scarred area from her recent surgeries or it could have something to do with her Thyroid. In any event, they have assured us that it is nothing to worry about (finally, something)!
We have been getting good news lately...hopefully it will continue.
Coming up, Gail has an appointment with her fertility specialist and Medical Oncologist. From these visits she should have an update on the fertility preservation and when the anticipated start time for Chemo will be.
Thanks to everyone for all of their help and support.
Carrie

Mi Sheberakh: May the One Who Blessed
The traditional Jewish prayer for the sick
By Rabbi Simkha Y. Weintraub
Reprinted with permission of the National Center for Jewish Healing, a program of the Jewish Board of Family and Children’s Services.
One of the central Jewish prayers for those who are ill or recovering from illness or accidents is the Mi sheberakh, whose name is taken from its first two Hebrew words. With a holistic view of humankind, it prays for physical cure as well as spiritual healing, asking for blessing, compassion, restoration, and strength, within the community of others facing illness as well as all Jews, all human beings.
Traditionally, the Mi sheberakh is said in synagogue when the Torah is read. If the patient herself/himself cannot be at services, a close relative or friend might be called up to the Torah for an honor, and the one leading services will offer this prayer, filling in the name of the one who is ill and her/his parents.
Increasingly, the Mi Sheberakh has moved into other settings and other junctures. Chaplains, doctors, nurses, and social workers are now joining patients and those close to them in saying the Mi Sheberakh at various junctures--before and after surgery, during treatments, upon admission or discharge, on the anniversary of diagnosis, and more. We present it to you here, in English translation and in transliteration from the Hebrew, as a resource for you as you confront the challenges of illness.
Please note: The transliterated text below presents the prayer with correct pronouns for male and female patients. The word before the slash is for males, the one after for females.
The prayer in English translation
May the One who blessed our ancestors --
Patriarchs Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob,
Matriarchs Sarah, Rebecca, Rachel, and Leah --
bless and heal the one who is ill:
________________ son/daughter of ________________ .
May the Holy Blessed One
overflow with compassion upon him/her,
to restore him/her,
to heal him/her,
to strengthen him/her,
to enliven him/her.
The One will send him/her, speedily,
a complete healing --
healing of the soul and healing of the body --
along with all the ill,
among the people of Israel and all humankind,
soon,
speedily,
without delay,
and let us all say: Amen!

Hey Gail,
ReplyDeleteI am so sorry to hear this news. I will be thinking about you and keeping you and your family in my prayers. I just recently had my first mammogram and ended up going back for an ultrasound of a questionable area. I go back again in 4 months to have it re-measured.
I ran into your mom a few months back and she had your little girl with her--she is so cute and about the same age as mine.
Stay strong & persevere!!

Hi Gail! I was so excited to see you on FB, then immediatelyl concerned, based on what some people were posting to your wall, that something not so good was happening. I'm glad to know about this website, and also to be able to tell you that I've been dealing with a cancer diagnosis for the last four years. Reading your blog, the memories of those first months--reeling from the schock, recovering from the surgery, grasping desperately for shreds of normalcy and peace, researching until my eyes were bleary, and thinking obsessively about my two beautiful children--it all came flooding back to me. It sounds like you are attacking this with hope, knowledge, strength, and determination, which are your best weapons. Having caring friends and family around you is so important too, and it sounds like you have both in abundance. Should you ever want to call, I'd be happy to hear from you. My home phone is 919-490-2055.
ReplyDeletePeace, Gail.
